Writing advice is easy to find, but for neurodivergent people, it often doesn’t work. Our brains are wired differently, our systems need to be more tailored, and sometimes, we just need help stepping through it.
I have learned this the hard way. I am autistic, I struggle badly with ADHD, and I’ve had burnout rear its ugly head many times. My joints are hypermobile and prone to strain, sometimes the words swim on the screen, and damned if I can assemble a coherent sentence when my brain has decided to act like a wet noodle.
And yet. And yet. I have written 16 books. Complete, entire novels. I’ve hit deadlines, navigated the world of self publishing, worked with a high-powered indie press, and founds ways to mitigate, accept, work around, and even supercharge my disabilities to make it happen.
That’s what Write with Spellscribe is all about:
finding ways that work for your brain so you can get that story out.
This is a service available to anyone, but it’s specifically aimed at people whose executive function is the main barrier stopping them from writing that story, starting that blog, jumping head first into that creative space. It’s available to writers in any genre or form. If you want to write a novel to submit to publishers, or self publish it yourself; start a daily poetry habit; share your stories on a blog; create a literary masterpiece; finish that enormous fanfiction you began ten years ago; assemble and print a collection of your Nan’s favourite recipes; or something so unique I haven’t even heard of it yet, I’m here to help in whatever capacity works best for you.
What we can do:
- brainstorm and work through plots and outlines, story ideas, or problems with your manuscript
- create systems and strategies to help you get started, or overcome executive functioning issues so you can work more frequently/more efficiently
- use sprints and body doubling so that you can get the words down during sessions
- work on a business plan if you’d like to make an income from writing
- seek out grants, residencies and other sources of support available in your region
- examine what has and hasn’t worked for you in the past when it comes to writing routines and productivity
- look at options for better accessibility
What I can’t do for you:
- write your book for you – this is your story to tell, not mine!
- make you a best seller – there are lots of great courses to help you write better, but I am not qualified to do that
- guarantee success – but I will work really, really hard to help you find it
- publish your book – I’ll walk you through the steps and guide you past the pitfalls, but I’m not out to make money off the work you produce
Sessions are one on one. There is no set structure or curriculum, because there is no one size fits all approach to writing, nor do all brains — neurodivergent or otherwise — thrive in the same ways. There are no contracts that lock you in, and we can change direction any time you need to.
Interested?
Book a free session to talk about your goals and how I can help you reach them.
Sessions are hosted on Zoom and are accessible from mobile, tablet, laptop or computer. You don’t need to have video turned on if you don’t want to. If you would prefer another method (phone call, google meet, or another service), I am happy to try to accomodate that. Just let me know in the comments when you place your booking.
If you have a quick enquiry or just prefer written communication, you can email me anytime.
Meet & Greet
A free intro session is available to anyone curious about how I can help them reach their goals. It’s a 30 minute chat where we can go through the roadblocks you’re facing and make a plan to overcome them. You’ll also have a chance to talk about your project and your goals for it.
These are limited to one per person, but please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need more information afterwards.
Writing Support Sessions
After we’ve completed the meet and greet, book this session for an hour of assistance, strategising, coaching, mentoring, soundboarding, body doubling, or anything else related to your creative work.
This option is for creatives of all kinds – writers, visual artists, stitch witches, musical mages. I might not know your craft, but I might know some strategies to get you over that creative hump.
Support Service – NDIS
If you have an NDIS plan with relevant goals and funding, you may be able to use your funding for sessions. If needed I’m more than willing to hop on a call or email chain with your LAC or Support Coordinator to see if my services fit into your plan.
Please note that support services are delivered remotely – I don’t offer any personal care or transport. I can, however, assist with body doubling, admin work, and executive function struggles.
